Research is essential

So over the last week we’ve found out that researching the area that you are going to live in advance of moving there is essential, a few days ago we found out why this is so essential.

You see My Husband as I’ve mentioned before is a Chinese Malaysian, meaning that frequently people from other races frequently mistake him for someone else. While this has never been a problem before, we recently found out that there is a standing dispute between a group of local Chinese and a group of local Afro-Caribbeans and a simple case of mistaken identity has meant that for the last few days we have had to be careful about  when and how we come and go from our front door, after recently being chased around the Zuidplien winkelcentrum by a group of fairly big angry looking Afro-Caribbeans.

Needless to say we are in a near permanent state of hyper-alertness as a result, and are looking for a new apartment closer to where we will be working. If we had researched the area in advance we would probably have not chosen here.

So here is some expat advice: when moving to a new area google it and read as much about it as possible to avoid situations like this.

Speak soon,

Okay, so this post  is a little late today and it’s a bit of a stub and I’ll try to get on top of that, but I’m still a little shaken from the encounters we’ve had of late.
