Trying to jump through bureaucratic hoops.

So, as with any time that you want to deal with the Government, Yesterday was spent going from desk to desk, phone-line to phone-line and then desk to desk again, in a mad attempt to complete our registration process.

However, even though we had been assured that we would be able to register at this address, it turns out that we must first have the local government’s permission to live in our home. //something that the landlord apparently forgot to tell us. // So what does this mean? … More forms (only available in Dutch of course) or paying at least €65 more rent each month.

The really annoying result of this isn’t that we might have to pay more rent, or that we have to go through the whole procedure again next week, it’s that this is costing us yet more time and money (since we can’t legally get paid, or even have a bank account, until all this box ticking is finished).

So having trawled through hours of paperwork, spent days on the phone and hours running back and forth between Offices at the Town Hall we are back to square one.

However, with everything that has been happening lately I’ve finally decided to dedicate myself to my own entrepreneurial activities // They say the first step to being successful is deciding to be successful, so this is me making my decision, I will be a Successful Entrepreneur! //  I could spend months being unemployed while waiting for someone to give me that “Golden Ticket” of a job offer, failing to provide for myself and relying on my Husband and his income, or I could open a company on Monday and take the first step onto the path that will hopefully be the second best decision of my life (the Best decision being to marry my Beautiful  Intelligent and loving Husband).

So the “Fun” starts all over again on Monday. Everything from meetings at the Chamber of Commerce for the enrolment of my Business, to meetings with the landlord to organise new rental agreements so that we can register. And of course we also have appointments at the Town Hall again to try for the second time to register as residents of Rotterdam, just so that we officially exist in the Netherlands. Which means at this rate we probably can’t visit the family back in the UK for Christmas.

Fun Huh?

Speak Soon,

Tim.
